Close your eyes and imagine life in Borganes without the Safnahús....
like life without

The museum was where I met almost all of my friends and neighbors in Borgarnes. I was initially attracted to Borgarnes because of the majestic views and that the museum Safnahús and the Settlement Center made a town of 2000 denizens feel worldly with their cosmopolitan character and contemporary feel.
As an artist it is essential to me that Borgarnes has an excellent museum for art and cultural buzz. I can view the Safnahus from my living room window. Bordeaux red, tall and dignified. It is centrally located on the coast of the Borgarnes bay. This gives me pride and cultural identity in a town where I have no roots. I think to myself wondrous that Borgarnes treasures and values it's history and art to give it such a grand position. I proudly tell my family, friends and visitors that they MUST visit the Safnahús, a trip is incomplete without this experience. There they will have a comprehensive experience of the history and art in present day Borgarnes.
For a town without a community center the Safnahús is an essential haven for community exchange. It is a delightful refuge in the winter, where one can read a book, see an interesting and excellent cultural exhibition and view art. It's a place where I bump into friends and acquaintances. Because it's located centrally I stop in the exhibition frequently.
Recent proposals suggest the resettlement and division of the Safnahús collections be distributed to different hamlets. A town meeting has been suggested to consider these suggestions. Although change is inevitable we are capable of participating in the change. The Safnahús is our only cultural hub. Perhaps a counter proposal of a third level to the already existing museum at the city hall meeting is a more attractive and less expensive solution. Participating in community also means speaking out for what you feel is important. Is the preservation and development of cultural hubs in our community essential to you?
The Safnahús Borgarfjarðar is an integral part of our community, if you haven't left a review yet, please do so now via this link.
To my good fortune I exhibited at the Safnahús in 2014 and in 2015. Each time impressed by the care taken in providing excellence in viewing art and the continual improvements. Since I moved to Borgarnes the museum was painted a bold Bordeaux red making it easy to find. Suddenly an awesome large text was on the side of the building. The actual exhibition space is elegant, clean and has a perfect lighting system for art as well as the benefit of natural light. The stunning views in addition to the museums highly professional staff add to its allure and prestige.
